Okay, so the idea of seeing this movie was more of my wonderful wife’s than it was of mine. However, I’m glad I did so. One reason is to please her, another is so that I can update my blog and let you know how good/bad it was. The final reason is because the movie isn’t as bad as everyone is saying. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t call this movie great by any means, and I’m not really sure I can say it was good, but it wasn’t as awful as others are saying.
I give this movie 2.5 Icees (out of 5) because the cinematography was at times very beautiful. We didn’t see it in 3D, but I can imagine that in 3D it would have been spectacular. The acting wasn’t bad either, especially by the supporting cast, including Sacha Baron Cohen who played Time and of course Helena Bonham Carter, aka the Queen of Hearts. The worst thing about this movie was the plot. There were no great twists or suspenseful scenes. The movie just sort of plodded along. At times, I would even say that it bordered on boring. However, it did progress and resulted in a satisfactory story. How’s that for a ringing endorsement? Satisfactory. Well, I call it as I see it.
Towards the end of the movie, Alice says, “I fear we shall not see each other again”. I have to say that if this was an indication of the best they can come up with, then I hope she is right.
