This kids movie gets a solid 3.5 Icees. Okay, I know after my review of Finding Dory, several people may not agree with my review kids movies, but I still stand by it. To me, Dory just wasn’t that funny. That is not a problem with The Secret Life Of Pets.

On the plus side, this movie has plenty of laughs. I think they could have done a lot more with the concept of, “what do our pets do when we’re away”, but I think they did ok with this. To me, Gidget and Katie stole the show. These two ladies really voiced their characters well. Throw in a maniacal Kevin Hart and there were plenty of laughs to keep young ones happy.

On the negative side, tell me if you’ve heard this one before. One is there with their owner for years and suddenly a second one is added. Jealousy bounds until the two get put into a dangerous situation together and are lost from home. Sound familiar?  Yes, I did think a bit of Toy Story when I was watching this, but just a bit. I wasn’t sitting there trying to compare the two.  This is probably good because the first TS was a classic. This movie doesn’t have a moral, or a lesson, or anything like that. It’s just a fun movie, and I think that’s what it should be!

This won’t ever be considered a classic, but it’s an enjoyable movie that your kids will like. In fact, if they liked Dory (and since it’s been number 1 for 3 weeks now, somebody sure does) they’ll like this one even more.  It may not have the nostalgic history that Dory has (my theory is that it is popular mostly because of Finding Nemo), but it’s funnier and in the end, isn’t that what really matters?

There is a scene as the credits start and a really short (not worth staying) scene at the end.  Enjoy…
