This excellent movie gets 4.5 Icees out of 5 from me!  As I’m writing this, I see that currently on it has a critic rating of 52% and an audience rating of 83%. I am firmly on the side of the audience this time. I just don’t get what the critics don’t like about this movie. Some of their comments is that its plot is too twisted. Really? They want a boring straight-forward plot? No, because then they’d complain it was too simple. Make up  your mind people!

This plot had several twists and storylines running at once as well as some flashbacks to help you understand the main character, but the film brings everything together in the end perfectly.  This is a movie you have to pay attention to, so if you’re a movie-goer that kinda watches the movie while your mind drifts elsewhere, you may struggle a bit.

This movie has really good action scenes, good drama, some really funny one-liners and motions (you’ll know what I mean when you see the film), and was just a really, really good movie.  I can see why the audience reviews on rottentomatoes loved it, but still just don’t get why the professional critics didn’t.  Oh well, that’s why I’m here! To let you know what a normal person (although some people would say that is debatable) thinks.

Batfleck (yes, that’s what I will forever call him) did an exceptional job playing a highly functioning autistic person. Was it a realistic portrayal? I honestly don’t know enough about autism to comment on that, but he sold the character well. His delivery was spot on. You could tell he spent time honing this character to carry off the mannerisms perfectly.  His fighting scenes were really good too. Straightforward, with swift calculated moves and no wasted action, just as he was taught.I don’t know if this will give Batfleck enough cred to get into an Expendables movie, but he definitely holds his own throughout the film.

A strong supporting cast is led by Anna (you see me in everything) Kendrick and J.K. Simmons. Also, it was good to see John Lithgow in a non-comedic role again. He gave a decent performance as well. This movie does have violence, to include point-blank shooting, but none of it is graphic.  There is some cursing in the movie, but it’s not really noticeable. There are no scenes after the credits.

How can I best sum up how good this movie is? Well, as soon as it ended my wife turned to me and said she wants to own it when as soon as it comes out on video.

Next week, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and Keeping Up With The Joneses
