This intense political drama gets 4.5 Icees out of 5!!  It was really good to see a powerful woman portrayed well.  We’ve often seen powerful men in movies but rare is it that we’ve seen a powerful woman set in the DC political landscape. In this movie, Jessica Chastain plays a Washington lobbyist and she portrays her as a cold-blooded assassin.  No, not in a bang-bang type of way, but in a no-holds barred ruthless type of way.

I can see Jessica getting some awards for this movie, although I don’t know if she’ll get an Oscar nod since there are so many good ladies to compete for that.  However, despite all that, she did an excellent job in this. There is one part to her character I could have done without, but to talk about that would be to give a spoiler.

I don’t know how well this movie will do from a box office standpoint since it is going up against some good draws in Moana, Fantastic Beasts and newcomer Office Christmas Party (review submitted earlier today), but this is one definitely worth seeing if you enjoy good acting and good drama, without action or murder scenes.  There is a short scene right after the credits start, but nothing after that.

Next week will of course be Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Collateral Beauty.  Although I am stoked to see Rogue One, I am very interested in seeing Beauty as well… even if I know it will make me cry.
